No. 13 Rebels Tie For Third At Preview

ALPHARETTA, Ga. (UNLVRebels.com) - The No. 13 UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round 6-over-par 286 on Tuesday and finished tied for third at the PING/Golfweek Preview Invitational. The tournament was played at the Capital City Club Crabapple (par 70, 7,248 yards), which is also the site of the 2013 NCAA Men's Division I Championship.

The Rebels finished the event with a 54-hole total of 13-over 853, tying with Texas, eight shots behind co-team champions Georgia Tech and California. The Yellow Jackets and Bears both recorded 5-over 845 totals after each team shot 4-under 276 on Tuesday. UCLA and Washington both tied for fifth at 14-over.

San Diego State's Tom Berry earned individual medalist honors at 2-under 208 after a final-round 2-over 72. There was an eight-way tie for second, that included UNLV senior Kevin Penner, at even-par 210. Penner shot even-par 70 during the final round.

UNLV's next-best finisher was junior Blake Biddle with a tie for 22nd at 4-over 214 after a final-round 2-over 72. Sophomores Carl Jonson and Kurt Kitayama both finished tied for 43rd at 9-over 219. Jonson shot a final-round 1-under 69, while Kitayama was at 9-over 79. Freshman AJ McInerneytied for 50th at 10-over 220 after a final-round 5-over 75.

The 15-team, 75-individual tournament featured 14 teams that were listed among Golfweek's preseason top 25 in the nation. UNLV will be back in action Oct. 8-9, at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational in Dublin, Ohio.
