LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's tennis team will close out its fall season by hosting the annual Larry Easley Memorial Classic this weekend at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on campus.
Players from six other programs will be competing in the individual event. Opponents scheduled to send competitors are Arizona, Auburn, Oregon, NAU, Grand Canyon and Seminole State College located in Seminole, Okla.
The tournament kicks off at 9 a.m. PT Friday and will be made up of one flight of doubles and two flights of singles along with consolation play in both.
Oklahoma State's Rifat Biktyakov won last year's Flight One singles title while Arturs Kazijevs and Mischa Nowicki of SMU took the top flight's doubles championship.
The annual event was renamed in 2010 in honor of UNLV Hall of Famer Larry Easley, who passed away from illness in 2005 at the age of 57. Easley coached the UNLV men's tennis team longer than anyone in history and produced sometimes-spectacular results over his dozen seasons from 1993-2002, including producing five All-Americans and two NCAA individual champions.
