Rebels 10th After First Round In Hawaii

KAHUKU, Hawaii (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's golf team shot an opening-round 15-over-par 303 on Wednesday at the 37th Annual John A. Burns Intercollegiate, which is being played at Turtle Bay Resort's Arnold Palmer Course (par 72, 7218 yards).

Two-time defending tournament champion California is the team leader after a 4-under 284 and leads the field by three shots. New Mexico is in second place at 1-under, followed by Colorado State, Arizona and BYU, all tied for third at 4-over. UNLV is in 10th place.

Individually, Cal's Joel Stalter leads by a shot at 5-under 67. New Mexico's Gavin Green is in second at 4-under, followed by Arizona's Erik Oja at 3-under.

UNLV freshman AJ McInerneyled all UNLV players on Wednesday with a 1-over 73 and is tied for 13th. He bogeyed the second and 12th holes prior to recording a birdie on the 14th.

Senior Kevin Penner is tied for 38th at 4-over, junior Blake Biddle and freshman Zane Thomas are both tied for 48th at 5-over, and sophomore Carl Jonsonis tied for 62nd at 7-over.

The 16-team, 88-individual tournament will continue Thursday and conclude Friday with 18 holes each day.
