KAHUKU, Hawaii (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's golf team shot a second-round 5-over-par 293 on Thursday to move into a tie for sixth place at the 37th Annual John A. Burns Intercollegiate, which is being played at Turtle Bay Resort's Arnold Palmer Course (par 72, 7218 yards).
Two-time defending tournament champion California remained the team leader after a second-round 6-under 282. The Golden Bears have a 36-hole total of 10-under 566 and lead the field by 16 shots. BYU is second at 6-over after a 2-over 290 on Thursday, while Texas A&M is third at 13-over, New Mexico is fourth at 14-over and Arizona rounds out the top five at 17-over.
UNLV is tied for sixth with Colorado State at 20-over 596.
Individually, Cal's Joel Stalter increased his lead to two shots with a 2-under 70 and sits at 7-under 137 for the tournament. His teammate Max Homa is in second at 5-under, while there is a three-way tie for third at 2-under.
UNLV junior Blake Biddle and freshman AJ McInerneylead all UNLV players as both are tied for 15th at 4-over. Biddle shot 1-under for the second round, while McInerney carded a 3-over. Biddle's round on Thursday consisted of a bogey on the 11th hole and an eagle on the par-5 577-yard 18th.
Freshman Zane Thomas is 5-over 149 after an even-par 72 on Thursday and is tied for 18th, while senior Kevin Penner is tied for 34th at 7-over (75) and sophomore Carl Jonsonis tied for 63rd at 13-over (78).
