Oct. 15, 2014 Complete Results LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Two of UNLV's three singles entries are still alive after the first day of action Wednesday at the 2014 USTA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Mountain Regional Championships, which are being held this week at the Darling Tennis Center.
Fourth-seeded and 123rd-ranked Ace Matias enjoyed a first-round bye before downing Idaho Mark Kovacs, 6-4, 6-3, to move into Thursday's third round. Joining him there will be fifth-seeded Denys Pume, who swept Utah State's Andrew Nakajima, 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles, Matias and Pume received a first-round bye while Rebel Ozzie Abraham teamed up with Utah's Louis Philippe Cascon to beat Mitchel Knight and Jordan Loughnan of Northern Colorado 8-7.
This is one of 24 USTA/ITA Regional Championships for NCAA Division I men and women taking place over these middle two weekends of October at campuses throughout the country. The singles and doubles champions will advance to the 2014 USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, taking place November 6-9, at the indoor facilities at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, located in Flushing, N.Y.
