The UNLV women's basketball team plays on New Year's Eve for the fourth time in school history as it hosts Wyoming in the Mountain West opener for both teams on Wednesday at 2 pm in the Cox Pavilion. The first 150 fans in attendance will receive a free Lady Rebel water bottle.
All-time UNLV is 1-2 when playing on December 31, and this will be the first time the Lady Rebels have played a conference game on that date, after games against Texas Tech in 1983 (loss), Lamar in 2005 (win) and a road loss at Santa Clara in 2012.
The Lady Rebels are 7-8 all-time in Mountain West season openers, and had won two straight before suffering a 79-63 loss last year to Fresno State in the Cox Pavilion. UNLV is 4-4 in MW openers on its home court, and is 2-2 when opening league play against Wyoming (2-0 as members of the MW, 0-2 when the schools were in the WAC).
