LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's tennis team won its third straight match with a 7-0 whitewash of North Dakota to complete a Sunday doubleheader sweep at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Rebels evened their record at 7-7.
UNLV swept three doubles matches to begin the afternoon. Ace Matias and Denys Pume shut out Josh Oothoudt and Grant Bakke 8-0 at No. 1; Willie Sublette and Tamas Batyi got by Ryan McGuigan and Connor Oberle 8-5 at No. 2; and Ozzy Abraham and Jakob Amilon defeated Dustin Britton and David Bergstrom 8-5 on court three.
The Rebels did not lose even a set in singles play. Matias downed Oothoudt 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1; Pume defated McGuigan 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2; Batyi won 6-1, 6-4 over Oberle at No. 3; Sublette downed Britton 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4; Amilon defeated Bergstrom 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5; and Abraham, a freshman from Las Vegas, won his first career dual match for the Rebels, 6-0, 6-1, over Jared Vigen on court six.
"It was a good day for us, starting with a solid win against a ranked team this morning in Marquette," said head coach Owen Hambrook. "We are finally getting healthy and it started to show today."
Next up, UNLV hosts Southern Utah on Friday beginning at 3 p.m. Admission is free of charge.
