Final Stats
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - San Diego State (34-17/14-12 Mountain West) evened its series with UNLV baseball (30-19/17-9 MW) with a 7-3 win on Saturday.
The Rebels opened the scoring by plating three runs in the second inning. Morgan Stotts led off the frame with a single to the third baseman. After Erik VanMeetren hit into a fielder's choice, Edgar Montes singled to left field, moving VanMeetren to second. Joey Swanner followed that up with a single to center field, driving in VanMeetren. McCallister then singled, scoring Montes, and Joey Armstrong singled to center, driving in Swanner.
That would be the bulk of the Rebel offense, as they would not record another hit in the game.
The Aztecs tied the game by plating three runs of their own in the third inning. They would also add one run in the fifth and three more in the eighth to take a 7-3 lead.
UNLV's Bryan Bonnell (5-5) took the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits in 6.2 innings of work. Joey Lauria, Zach Story-Baker and Matt Thomas all made relief appearances for the Rebels.
The Rebels and Aztecs will face off in the rubber match on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. Fans in Las Vegas can listen to the game on ESPN 1100 AM/98.9 FM or can watch online at UNLVRebels.com, thanks to the Mountain West Network.
