Rebels Wrap Up Road Trip In San Diego

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV baseball (29-18/16-8 Mountain West) will wrap up its seven-game road swing by playing three games at San Diego State (33-16/13-11 MW). The Rebels and Aztecs will open play on Friday at 6:05 p.m., will play on Saturday at 6:05 p.m. and will wrap up the series on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium. Fans can watch all three games on UNLVRebels.com or can listen to the Friday and Sunday games on ESPN 1100 AM/98.9 FM. The Rebels most recently traveled to South Carolina where UNLV beat James Madison 2-1, but fell to Clemson 6-2 and 5-2 last week. The Rebels also played a midweek game at UC Riverside, where UNLV fell 8-2. The Aztecs come into the weekend series winners of their last 10 games, which included trips to New Mexico and Long Beach State. SDSU dropped the series at UNM, but beat the 49ers 6-3 on Tuesday.

SCOUTING THE REBELS
UNLV baseball (29-18/16-8 Mountain West) will wrap up its seven-game road swing by playing three games at San Diego State (33-16/13-11 MW). The Rebels, who sit atop the Mountain West standings, most recently traveled to South Carolina where UNLV beat James Madison 2-1, but fell to Clemson 6-2 and 5-2 last week. The Rebels also played a midweek game at UC Riverside, where UNLV fell 8-2. From the mound, Erick Fedde (8-2, 1.76 ERA) leads the Rebels and the Mountain West with 82 strikeouts in 76.2 innings of work. Opponents are hitting .209 against Fedde this year, which ranks first in the Mountain West. John Richy (8-3, 2.97 ERA) picked up his eighth win of the year against James Madison in Clemson, S.C. Richy and Fedde are tied for the most wins in the Mountain West this season. Richy ranks second, behind his teammate, with 81 strikeouts in 91.0 innings of work, which is a team-high, and leads the Rebels with five complete games in 2014. Bryan Bonnell (5-4, 2.43 ERA) has struck out 36 batters this season and has walked 12 in 89.0 innings of work. Brayden Torres (1-1, 2.82 ERA) leads the team with six saves and has struck out 27 in 22.1 innings of work. From the plate, From the plate the Rebels are led by Morgan Stotts (.340), Joey Swanner (.315), Patrick Armstrong (.315), T.J. White (.314), Joey Armstrong (.304) and Erik VanMeetren (.301). Pat Armstrong leads the team with six home runs and has driven in a team-high 37 runs. White leads the team with 16 stolen bases and has scored a team-high 39 runs. Joey Armstrong has drawn a team-high 27 walks and has stolen seven bases, which is tied with VanMeetren for the second most on the team. Edgar Montes recorded his sixth outfield assist this season against Clemson. His six outfield assists are tied for 17th in the country. As a team, UNLV is hitting .295 this season and has recorded 15 outfield assists.

SCOUTING THE AZTECS
San Diego State (33-16/13-11 Mountain Wes) comes into the game with UNLV (29-18/16-8 MW) having won six of its last 10 games. The Aztecs most recently traveled to New Mexico and won the series opener, but dropped the Saturday and Sunday contests. After their trip to the Land of Enchantment, SDSU traveled to Long Beach State and beat the Dirtbags 6-3. From the mound the Aztecs have been led by Friday night starter Bubba Derby (6-2, 2.38 ERA). Derby leads the team with 73 strikeouts in 79.1 innings. Saturday starter Mark Seyler (7-4, 3.89 ERA) has struck out 63 in 76.1 innings of work. Michael Cederoth is SDSU's top pitcher out of the bull pen and has a 5-1 record to go with a 2.21 ERA and 17 saves. The Aztecs have four players that are hitting over the .300 mark in 2014: Ty France (.367), Tim Zier (.346), Greg Allen (.311) and Seby Zavala (.300). Brad Haynal is hitting .287 and is second in the MW with 11 home runs this season.

UNLV-SAN DIEGO STATE HISTORY
San Diego State leads the overall series against UNLV 72-52. The Rebels most recently took two-of-three from the Aztecs in Las Vegas earlier this season. SDSU is one of only two teams to have beaten UNLV in Las Vegas in 2014 (the other is San Jose State).

ON DECK
UNLV will wrap up its season with four home games during the final week of the regular season. The Rebels will host Arizona State on Tuesday, which will also be the final "Two Dollar Tuesday" of the year. UNLV will then wrap up Mountain West play by hosting Nevada, Reno Thursday through Saturday.
