LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Colorado scored just three minutes into the game and added two second half scores to hand UNLV its first loss of the season, 3-0 in women's college soccer action on Friday night at Peter Johann Memorial Field in the second game of the UNLV Nike Invitational. The Rebels dropped to 2-1 on the year with the setback, while the Buffs are a perfect 3-0 this season.
UNLV suffered the three-goal loss despite Colorado holding just a 9-8 edge on shots. Six of the shots were on goal however, beginning with a goal in the third minute from Carly Bolyard. Bianca Jones received the assist on the play after finding Bolyard alone in the box, and she slotted a shot to the top right from 12 yards out for a 1-0 edge.
The Rebels seemed to settle down after the first opening minutes, and started to take the attack to the Buffs, taking six shots in the opening half and forcing Kate Schelle to make all four of her saves in the first 45 minutes. The game would remain at 1-0 going into halftime, and both teams were tied with six shots each.
The second half saw both teams with more limited chances on offense, as they combined for five shots total. The Buffs would score goals on two of their three shots however, both coming in a five-minute span that put the game away. Bolyard notched her second goal of the night in the 60th minute following a yellow card on the Rebels. She took the ensuring free kick, and sent a rocket to the far left post for the score, making it 2-0 in favor of Colorado. Kahila Hogg ended the scoring in the 64th minute after when she drove into the box, received a pass from Darcy Jerman and scored for a 3-0 lead.
Two players finished with two shots each for the Rebels, Hayley Wilson and Jordan Magnin, and both had one shot on goal as well. In the net, Jordan Sallee posted three saves and three goals allowed in 74:55 of action, while Emily Casale played the rest of the way, and finished with no saves and no goals allowed.
UNLV finishes the weekend by facing Saint Francis on Sunday at 10:30 am on the final day of the UNLV Nike Invitational.
