NAPA, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - Three members of the UNLV men's tennis team opened fall play Friday during the first day of the Napa Valley Collegiate Invitational being played at the Silverado Resort and Spa.
"There were lots of positives today," Head Coach Owen Hambrook said. "Everyone competed well and is looking forward to another tough day of matches tomorrow."
The Rebels opened with a doubles victory from Ace Matias and Denys Pume, who downed Pacific's Alex Hamilton and Miguel Diaz in a tiebreaker, 8-7.
UNLV won one of three singles matches. Matias, ranked 123rd in the nation, was upset by UOP's Daniel Alameh in three sets. Pume cruised in his match vs. Diaz, 6-2, 6-2, and Ozzy Abraham lost his match in three sets to San Francisco's Johan Samuelsson.
Players from Pepperdine, Oklahoma State and Hawai'i are also on hand. The event runs through Sunday.
