2014 William H. Tucker Intercollegiate Results
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) - The No. 11 UNLV men's golf team finished in sixth place after shooting a final-round 12-over-par 300 on Saturday at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, which was played at the UNM Championship Course (par 72, 7,562 yards). Course conditions were difficult with wind playing a factor.
Host New Mexico won the team title for the third straight year with a 54-hole total of 15-under 849 after a final-round 7-over 295. Texas Tech finished second, 15 shots back at even par, while San Diego State was third at 9-over. TCU and New Mexico State tied for fourth at 16-over, while the Rebels were 22-over for the tournament, which consisted of 15 teams.
New Mexico's Gavin Green earned medalist honors, also for the third straight year, at 9-under 207 after a final-round even-par 72. Texas Tech teammates Clement Sordet and Guillermo Pereira both tied for second, three shots back at 6-under 210.
UNLV was led by sophomore Taylor Montgomery, who tied for 12th at 2-over 218 after a final-round 2-over 74.
Other Rebel team scores: senior Carl Jonson tied for 25th at 6-over 222 after a final-round 1-over 73, senior Kurt Kitayama tied for 28th at 7-over 223 after a final-round 7-over 79, junior Zane Thomas tied for 55th at 14-over 230 after a final-round 3-over 75 and freshman Ben Davis also tied for 55th at 14-over after a final-round 6-over 78. Competing as individuals: freshman John Oda tied for 38th at 10-over 226 after a final-round 8-over 80 and junior AJ McInerney tied for 67th at 17-over 233 after a final-round 7-over 79. There were a total of 92 individuals.
UNLV will be back in action Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 6-7, at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate in Birmingham, Ala.
