UNLV's three-week road trip finally caught up to the team on Sunday afternoon, as the Rebels were shutout 3-0 at Wyoming in Mountain West women's soccer action at Louis S. Madrid Stadium. The loss dropped the Rebels' record to 6-3-1, 1-1 in league play and a 3-2-1 mark in the month of September, all six games on the road.
UNLV did have its chances, holding an overall 12-8 edge on shots while shots on goal were six each for both teams. The Rebels had the first two shots of the game, but it was Wyoming that cashed in on its first shot when Kaitlyn Lomsnes stole the ball in the box and shot to the lower left corner for a score, her first of the year, in the 18th minute. The deficit grew to 2-0 in the 40th minute when Lomsnes crossed the ball to Claire Parker at the top of the box, who found the back of the net with a shot for her first goal of the year as well.
After outshooting the Cowgirls 7-5 in the first half, UNLV again held a +2 advantage in the second half, 5-3, but could not connect on the scoring chances. Wyoming meanwhile took advantage of an own goal by the Rebels to go ahead 3-0 in the 74th minute. The best chance UNLV had of making a run came in the 78th minute when it was awarded a penalty kick, but Cowgirl goalkeeper Alex Boehm made the save on the kick to preserve the shutout.
Jordan Sallee finished the game with three saves and three goals allowed for UNLV. Boehm split time in goal with Georgia Rowntree for Wyoming, who played the first half. Both Cowgirl goalkeepers posted three saves in the game.
The Rebels return to action on Friday, Oct. 3, when they host Fresno State at 7 pm at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
