LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's golf team, ranked No. 19 in Golfweek's Preseason Poll, will open its 2014-15 season on Saturday, Sept. 6, as it will compete at the 46th Annual Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational. The two-day tournament, which is being hosted by Air Force, will be played at the Eisenhower Golf Club's Blue Course (par 72, 7,401 yards) in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The 54-hole stroke-play event will consist of 36 holes (two rounds) on Saturday starting at 8:15 a.m. MT in a shotgun format, and 18 on Sunday, with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. MT. The 16-team field includes Air Force, Air Force JV, Boise State, Colorado, Colorado State, Nevada, Reno, New Mexico State, Northern Colorado, Southern Utah, UMKC, UNLV, Utah, Utah State, UTEP, Weber State and Wyoming.
UNLV did not play in last year's Falcon Invitational, but two years ago (2012) it placed in a tie for second as a team. Kurt Kitayama, who was a sophomore at the time, turned in a top-10 individual finish at that event. Competing for the Rebels this weekend will be seniors Carl Jonson and Kurt Kitayama, junior AJ McInerney, sophomore Taylor Montgomery and junior Zane Thomas, while freshman John Oda playing as an individual.
Air Force is the defending tournament champion as the Falcons won by 12 strokes last year over second-place UTEP. Air Force's Kyle Westmoreland earned medalist honors at 12-under par, one stroke shy of the tournament record.

UNLV is entering its 28th season under head coach Dwaine Knight and the squad returns nine letterwinners from last season. UNLV has played in a NCAA-record 26-straight NCAA Regionals.
