LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's basketball team will play its second straight road game in Mountain West play this Saturday, Jan. 17, at San Diego State at 3 p.m. After snapping a three-game losing streak by defeating San José State, 74-40, at the Thomas & Mack Center last Saturday, the Runnin' Rebels lost another close game on the road Tuesday night at Boise State (82-73), in overtime. UNLV, which trailed by eight at the half against the Broncos, had a shot to win it at the end of regulation that didn't go in.

The Runnin' Rebels recently closed out the toughest stretch of schedule in program history, playing three top-15 teams (then-No. 14 Utah, then-No. 3 Arizona and then-No. 13 Kansas) plus a trip to Laramie, Wyo., in a 16-day span. The recent three-game losing streak included a loss at Kansas and two close losses in Mountain West play: at Wyoming (76-71) and to Nevada, Reno (64-62). Prior to the league opener on New Year's Eve, UNLV had won two straight games and five of six.

The Runnin' Rebels, who had to replace all five starters from a year ago, have used a rotation this season that includes five freshmen, one sophomore and two seniors. Freshman guard Rashad Vaughn leads the team in scoring with an average of 17.5 ppg, which is third in the Mountain West. Sophomore forward Christian Wood has 10 double-doubles this year, which ranks sixth in the country, and has averages of 14.8 ppg (second on the team, 8th in MW), and team highs of 10.0 rpg (1st in MW, 18th in the country) and 2.9 bpg (2nd in MW, 17th in the country). Freshman forward Goodluck Okonoboh is second on the team and third in the MW in blocks, also with 2.9 per game (18th in the country, 2nd among all freshmen). Senior guard Cody Doolin leads the squad and MW with 4.5 apg and has an assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.2, which leads the conference and is 18th nationally.

As a team, the Runnin' Rebels are second in the nation in total blocks (126), third in blocks per game (7.4 bpg), fourth in defensive rebounds per game (28.82) and 19th in field-goal percentage defense (37.4).

Saturday's game from Viejas Arena at Aztec Bowl in San Diego, Calif., will be televised on CBS Sports Network with Rich Waltz and Doug Gottlieb calling the action. Jon Sandler and Robert Smith will handle the UNLV radio call, which may be heard live on ESPN Radio 1100 AM/100.9 FM in Las Vegas.
