Jan. 31, 2015 PALO ALTO, Calif. - The UNLV men's tennis team fell 6-1 in a road match with No. 36 Stanford Saturday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
The Rebels fell to 0-2 while the Cardinal improved to 2-2.
Doubles started the match and were hotly contested. UNLV took the first completed match as Jakob Amilon and Denys Pume downed John Morrissey and Robert Stineman 6-1 at the top spot. Both of the other two matches ended with a 7-5 score but Stanford took both of them to earn the 1-0 team lead.
In singles, the hosts won five straight-setters before Amilon finally got his team on the board with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 win over Maciek Romanowicz at the third spot.
The Rebels will next be in action on Friday when they host New Mexico State starting with doubles play at 2 p.m. Admission to all UNLV home matches is free of charge.
