LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The Rebel cross country team finished fourth overall with a team score of 65 points at its own UNLV Invitational, which was held at Craig Ranch Regional Park Saturday. Rebecca Hobby's time of 18:15.0, a personal best, paced the squad with a sixth-place showing in the women's college/university 5K.
Besides Hobby, the Rebels received their points from Spencer Moore (eighth/18:18.9), Nikki Regalado (11th/18:36.9 PB), Angela Ziff (17th/18:55.5) and Sara Williams (23rd/19:04.4). Lindy Eskin (20:56.9) and Iris Munguia (21:48.0) also ran in the race for UNLV.
"Today was a rough day for us," said head coach Jebreh Harris. "We encountered a few unfortunate situations leading into the race, but that happens from time to time. Rebecca and Nikki ran personal bests to highlight our performance. We will take what we learned about ourselves today and keep moving forward. I'd like to thank everyone that came out and supported us. It was very much appreciated."
San Diego State won the meet with a team score of 27 points and a combined time of 1:30:41.1. The Aztecs had five individuals finish in the top 10, including Elaine Ribeiro, who crossed the finish line first in 17:44.7.
Southern Utah and USC registered 61 points apiece; however, the former was awarded second-place honors with a time of 1:32:59.1 to the latter's 1:33:00.6. UNLV had a time of 1:33:10.9.
The Rebels will have next week off before returning to participate at Santa Clara's Bronco Invitational (6K) on Oct. 17.
