LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV volleyball team (13-10 overall, 6-5 Mountain West) had its 11 match winning streak snapped by the Boise State Broncos (17-7, 9-3 MW) Saturday evening at the Cox Pavilion. The Broncos won in straight sets by set scores of 25-13, 25-17, 25-23.
The Rebels' lengthy winning run at home began on Nov. 25, 2014 -- a 3-1 win over San Diego State -- and continued through this past Thursday's 3-1 victory over Utah State. Coincidentally, the last home loss by UNLV was to the Broncos 12 matches ago on Nov. 22, 2014 in a 3-1 decision.
BSU, who hit between .314 (second set) and .353 (third), outhit UNLV by 228 points (.336 to .108). The Broncos connected on 13 more kills (46-33) and amassed 13 fewer errors (8-21) in two more attack attempts (113-111). The visitors from the Gem State only erred more than twice in any set with four coming in the second; however, UNLV fewest miscues in any stanza was six (third). The home side's offense didn't come to until the final frame when its attackers hit at a .233 clip.
"We started off in the hole and never recovered," said head coach Cindy Fredrick. "Our passing really made it difficult to run an offense tonight, which resulted in a lot of hitting errors."
The Scarlet & Gray got 10 kills from Ceannia Kincade and nine more from Bree Hammel. The former also chipped in six digs, one assist and one assisted block, while the latter added one dig and one assisted block.
Alexis Patterson dished out a team-best 30 assists to go along with four digs and two aces.
Defensively, Carly Riehl led all with a match-high 22 digs, while teammate Sadie Stutzman had 10 of her own.
The Broncos got a double-double from Sarah Baugh and Sierra Nobley. The former combined 38 assists -- a match high -- and 11 digs, while the latter paired a match-high 15 kills with 10 digs for the feat. Their teammate Sabryn Roberts hit at a match-best clip of .600, which came off of 12 kills in 20 swings. Maddi Osburn paced Boise State's back row with a team-high 15 digs.
UNLV returns to action next week with its final two-match road swing in Reno, Nev., and San Diego. The Rebels open up the trip with a Governor's Series match against the Nevada, Reno Wolf Pack on Thursday, Nov. 5 (6:30 pm). They'll head south to America's Finest City for a showdown with the San Diego State Aztecs two days later with first serve set for 6:00 pm (Saturday, Nov. 7).
NOTES: With the assistance of her 30 assists, Patterson became the fifth Rebel in the modern-day era of volleyball (rally scoring) to surpass the 2,000 assist mark; currently, she has 2,006.
