Rebels Finish Seventh In Alabama

VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round 7-over-par 287 on Tuesday and finished in seventh place at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, which was played at Old Overton Golf Club (par 70, 7,228 yards).

Host Alabama won the team title for the eighth time in the last 10 years, this time by five shots at 19-under 821. Florida finished second at 14-under, followed by No. 3 Auburn at 13-under, No. 5 Florida State at 7-under and Arkansas was fifth at 6-over. UAB finished sixth at 8-over, while the Rebels finished the tournament with a 54-hole total of 13-over 853. The field was made up of 12 teams.

Individually, Alabama's Robby Shelton held off Auburn's Michael Johnson by a shot for medalist honors. Shelton shot a final-round 1-under 69 on Tuesday to finish at 11-under 199, while Johnson shot a final-round 6-under 64 to finish at 10-under.

The Rebels were led by sophomore Shintaro Ban, who tied for sixth place at 2-under 208 after a final-round even-par 70. Sophomore John Oda tied for 20th at 2-over after a final-round 2-over, while senior AJ McInerney tied for 36th at 8-over after a final-round 4-over, and sophomore Ben Davis and freshman Harry Hall both tied for 42nd at 10-over. Davis was 1-over for the final round, while Hall was 5-over. The tournament had a total of 60 individuals.

UNLV will be back in action Oct. 18-20, at the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational in Orlando, Fla.
