SEATTLE (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV cross country team finished 27th overall at the NCAA West Regional hosted by the University of Washington at the Jefferson Park Golf Course in Seattle Friday. Today's 6K finish was the best for a Rebel squad at a regional since the 2011 edition was 25th, and its 715 team score was the lowest since the 2009 team's 658.
The Scarlet & Gray was paced by Spencer Moore, who finished 135th in a time of 22:40.9. Moore led a quintet to a total team time of 1:54.22 (22.53 average) in cold and rainy conditions.
The four other Rebels that participated Friday finished between 141st and 159th. Nikki Regalado (141/22:50.2), Rebecca Hobby (147/22:53.4), Sara Williams (149/22:54.6) and Auzsane Crowe-Carter (159/23:02.4).
"Our Rebels competed as a team today and it showed with our 21.5-second spread between our first and fifth runners," said head coach Jebreh Harris. "I believe this is one of the best regional finishes for our program since 2009. We have a good group of young women that competed for each other and UNLV today."
Oregon and Boise State finished 1-2 at the regional, and the pair were only separated by one point with the former scoring 79 to the latter's 80. Individually, BSU's Allie Ostrander, the 2015 Mountain West Championships individual champion, won the race behind a time of 20:10.9, while UO's Waverly Neer was second (20:32.2). Besides Ostrander's finish, BSU had runners finish fourth (Brenna Peloquin/20:37.8) and fifth Minttu Hukka (20:42.2).
