SAN DIEGO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - #6 UNLV women's soccer's fell to #3 New Mexico 2-0 in the Quarterfinals of the Mountain West Tournament on Tuesday night at San Diego State Sports Deck. The Rebels end the season at 11-10-0, 6-5-0 while New Mexico improves to 10-8-1, 7-3-1.
The first half was scoreless as both teams didn't allow many scoring chances. Kendall Sandoval had the best chance in the 33rd minute when she forced a jumping save and a ball that bounced around in the box before Dakota Blazak kicked just high of the net. Goalkeeper Jessie Clark made a diving save in the 38th minute to keep it scoreless.
New Mexico opened the scoring in the second half with a goal in the 53rd minute. Lindsey Guice scored off a cross in the box from the left side. The Lobos added another goal in the 71st minute when Claire Lynch placed a long ball in just past Clark. The Rebels tried to put pressure on the Lobos' goalkeeper but weren't able to convert any scoring chances.
Denali Murnan led the team with four shots in the match, placing three on goal. Sandoval and Jodi Barber both had one shot on goal, and Brittney Gideon had two shots.
