2015 Sea Best Invitational Results

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's golf team is tied for fifth after the first day of play on Monday at the 7th Annual Sea Best Invitational, which is being played at TPC Sawgrass' Dye's Valley Course (par 70, 6,873 yards).

Conditions were tricky with winds gusting over 20 miles per hour. The course is well known for narrow fairways with an abundance of hazards.

The Rebels shot an opening-round 16-over-par 296 and a second-round 18-over 298, and are 10 shots back of tournament-leading North Carolina. The Tar Heels shot rounds of 8-over 288 and 16-over 296 for a 36-hole total of 24-over 584. Florida State is second at 27-over, followed by Florida in third at 28-over and North Florida in fourth at 32-over. The Rebels are tied with McNeese at 34-over.

Florida's AJ Crouch leads all individuals at 1-under 139 after rounds of 1-under 69 and even-par 70 on Monday. Coastal Carolina's Ben Wheeler and North Carolina's Ben Griffin are both tied for second at 2-over, three shots back.

UNLV freshman John Oda is just four shots off the lead in a tie for fourth place at 3-over 143 after rounds of 1-over 71 and 2-over 72. Rebel sophomore Taylor Montgomery is also in the top 15 as he is tied for 12th at 6-over 146 (74-72).

Other Rebel scores: senior Carl Jonson is tied for 35th at 12-over 152 (75-77), senior Kurt Kitayama is tied for 43rd at 13-over 153 (76-77) and freshman Shintaro Ban is tied for 59th at 16-over 156 (79-77).

The tournament, which is the first of the Spring Season for UNLV, features 15 teams and 81 individuals. A final round of 18 holes will be played on Tuesday starting at 8 a.m. ET.
