Back-To-Back Weekly Honors For Miller

Feb. 23, 2015

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -

After leading to wins over two of the top four teams in the conference, UNLV senior guard Danielle Miller has been named the Mountain West Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the second week in a row, the league office announced on Monday morning. It is the third time this season that Miller has received MW weekly honors, as she was also honored on Jan. 5, and it is the third honor in her career as well.

The native of San Diego, Calif., averaged 18.5 points while helping the Lady Rebels to a 74-60 win at fourth-place Boise State on Feb. 18, and at home over then co-leader New Mexico 79-73 on Feb. 21. That helped her to a league-best third award this season, while she is the first Lady Rebel to be named player of the week at least three times in a season since Lenita Sanford earned weekly honors four times in 2011-12.

In the road victory over the Broncos, who had entered that game 11-1 at home this season, Miller posted 16 points and was a perfect 6-of-6 at the free throw line. Her biggest impact in that game however was on the defensive side, as she was keying in shutting down BSU leading scorer Deanna Weaver, limiting her to just seven points off 3-of-11 shooting. That was part of an overall defensive performance by the Lady Rebels that held four of the five Bronco starters to single digits and the team to a 36.8% shooting performance.

In the victory over New Mexico, which broke the Lobos' league-high eight-game win streak, Miller led all scorers with 21 points. She finished the game 7-of-10 from the free throw line while adding a game-high tying eight rebounds. She also tied for the team lead in assists with four, to just one turnover. Miller came up bigger when UNLV needed it most with a pair of big shots at the end of each half. After New Mexico took its first lead of the game at the end of the first half, she answered with a trey to put UNLV back ahead two. Then with the lead at just four points in the final minute of the game, she nailed a contested 17-foot shot near the end of the shot clock for a six point lead that would seal the game for UNLV.

UNLV, currently on a four-game win streak and winners of six of its last seven, are back in action on Wednesday night at 7 pm against Utah State in the Cox Pavilion. It's Rebel Red Wednesday, with all fans wearing red receiving $4 admission, while kids 12 and under are free at Lady Rebel games.
