Box Score

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - A cold shooting afternoon doomed UNLV's chances Tuesday, as the Lady Rebels shot 30.5% and were held to just five points over a 10-minute span in the second half on the way to a 64-46 loss to fourth seeded Boise State in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Women's Basketball Championships. The Broncos now advance to meet eighth-seeded San Jose State in Wednesday's semifinals, while UNLV, the fifth-seed in the event, saw its season end with a 13-17 record.

UNLV would finish the contest hitting 18-of-59 from the floor, 4-of-18 from three-point range for 22.2%, and also struggled at the line, making a season-low 42.9%. That offset the Lady Rebels' defensive efforts, as after allowing the last three opponents of the regular season to shoot better then 50%, all losses, the Broncos were held to 32.8% (19-of-58) for the day. However, BSU held the edge on both three-pointers made (9-of-27, 33.3%) and free throws (17-of-23, 73.9%).

Seniors Alana Cesarz and Danielle Miller paced UNLV in their last games in the Scarlet and Gray. Cesarz finished with her eighth double-double of the year, 14 points and 11 rebounds. Miller, the leading scorer in the conference, shot 5-of-18 on the way to 13 points. The next high scorer for the team was Aley Rohde and Nikki Wheatley, both with six.

Boise State started the game on a 7-0 run, which was countered by a 9-2 run from the Lady Rebels to tie the game at 9-9 with 12:52 to play in the first half. UNLV took its first lead on a free throw from Briana Charles at 10-9. The Broncos then scored the next five points for a 17-12 edge with 8:33 to play.

UNLV would hold the Broncos without a point for the next 4:45 of the game, and reeled off seven straight for a 19-17 lead. Rohde started the run with a layup, while Cesarz added a trey and Miller capped with a jumper at the 4:03 mark. Kayla Reinhart answered with a three-pointer for Boise State to go back ahead, and that was followed by a trey from UNLV. This one was from Brooke Johnson, and gave UNLV a 22-20 lead at the three-minute mark.

That was the last point of the half for UNLV. The Broncos tied teh game on a layup, hit back-to-back three-pointers and then scored with six seconds in the half for a 30-22 halftime lead.

UNLV cut the lead to four points in the second half, using a 6-0 run with four points from Wheatley to close within 36-32 at the 14:24 mark. Boise State then hit another three-pointer to open the lead back to seven. Charles would score a layup for UNLV to make the score 39-34 with 13:32 to play. A seven-minute field goal drought would follow, and UNLV posted only one made free throw during that stretch. The Broncos had almost has much trouble scoring as UNLV did, as they could only manage six points themselves. That was still enough to increase the lead to 10 points, 45-35 with 6:52 to play. UNLV came no closer then eight the rest of the way.

Yaiza Rodriguez led Boise State with 15 points and eight rebounds. Deanna Weaver and Miquelle Askew both added 11 points each. The Broncos held a 49-37 rebounding edge, thought UNLV finished with a 20-11 advantage on second chance points.
