2015 Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters Results
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The No. 25 UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round 2-over-par 290 on Wednesday and finished in a tie for 10th at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters, which was played at Southern Highlands Golf Club (par 72, 7,374 yards).
The prestigious tournament, which annually features one of the toughest fields in college golf, included 10 of the top-25 ranked teams in the country and all 15 teams competing were in the nation's top 50. In addition, 19 of the top-50 ranked individuals in the country were represented at the event.
No. 7 Texas closed with a final-round 10-under 278 to take the team title by 10 shots at 26-under 838. No. 24 Oklahoma finished second at 16-under, followed by No. 22 Oklahoma State and No. 13 Arizona State in a tie for third at 9-under. No. 11 UCLA rounded out the top five at 7-under. The Rebels finished the 54-hole event at 4-over.
Alabama's Robby Shelton fired a final-round-low 7-under 65 to win the tournament by six shots at 15-under 201. His final round included nine birdies and two bogeys. Arizona State's Jon Rahm and Texas' Beau Hossler tied for second at 9-under.
UNLV was led by senior Kurt Kitayama, who finished tied for 11th at 3-under 213 after a final-round 2-under 70. Rebel sophomore Redford Bobbitt, who played as an individual and was the co-leader after the first and second rounds, finished tied for 18th at 2-under. He shot 6-over on the final day of the tournament.
Other Rebel scores: junior AJ McInerney, who played as an individual, and senior Nicholas Maruri both tied for 34th at 1-over, freshman Ben Davis, who played as an individual, tied for 39th at 2-over, senior Carl Jonson tied for 43rd at 3-over, freshman Shinatro Ban, who played as an individual, tied for 48th at 4-over, freshman John Oda tied for 64th at 8-over, while sophomore Chris Tuulik, who played as an individual, and sophomore Taylor Montgomery both tied for 66th at 9-over.
UNLV will return to action on Monday, March 16, at the Jackrabbitt Invitational in Primm, Nev. The two-day tournament will be played at Primm Valley Golf Course and hosted by South Dakota State.
