LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's tennis team saw its five-match winning streak snapped by No. 19 UCLA, 6-1, on a rare Monday match at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
The Rebels fell to 9-5 while the Bruins improved to 9-6.
UNLV actually led the match 1-0 after taking the team doubles point. The Rebels won two of the three matches as Ace Matias and Adam Gage-Brown downed Joseph Di Giulio and Karue Sell, 6-3, at the top of the lineup and Ozzy Abraham and Alexandr Cozbinov finished off Gage Brymer and Ryoto Tachi, 6-2, on court three.
In singles, Gage-Brown took his opponent, Sell, to three sets before falling at the third position. The visitors also barely missed out on a big upset at the top spot as Matias, who entered the match with a 9-1 record in duals this season, lost the first set in a tiebreaker after having nine set points and then lost a 4-1 lead in the second set against 33rd-ranked Dennis Mkrtchian.
Next up, the Rebels will host Cal Poly on Friday. Admission is free of charge.
