LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The 72nd-ranked UNLV men's tennis team lost at home for only the second time in 11 outings this season, falling 4-3 to No. 64 Cal Poly on a hot Friday afternoon at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
Playing in 90-degree spring temperatures, the Rebels fell to 9-6 overall while the Mustangs improved to 11-7.
Cal Poly opened up by taking the two completed doubles matches for the key team point.
In singles, however, UNLV took a 2-1 lead when Ruben Alberts downed Karl Enander, 6-3, 6-2, at the sixth spot, and Ace Matias defeated Ben Donovan, 6-3, 6-4, at the top of the lineup. The hosts got another win when Jakob Amilon outlasted Lucas Lesoeur, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 3, but the Mustangs won a trio of three-setters to eke out the victory.
Next up, the Rebels will host Mountain West Conference rival Utah State on Sunday starting at 11 a.m. Admission is free of charge.
