AUSTIN, Texas (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field team closed out its three-day stay at the Nike Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays with a pair of top-eight performances, including a seventh-place showing by MacKenna Howard in the shot put at Mike A. Myers Stadium Saturday.
In a matter of one week, Howard has placed her name in the top-two of the program's outdoor all-time performance list. She unleashed a shot put that measured 51-5 (15.67m), which was good enough for second in UNLV's records. Saturday in Austin, the freshman one-upped herself with a toss of 51-6.5 (15.71m) to increase her second-place standing.
The Rebels' 4x400m relay of Laura Anuakpado, Joniece Ervin, Mandy Chitwood (Las Vegas/Canyon Springs HS) and Kenia Bonilla finished eighth overall in a time of 3:44.42.
The quartet of Monay Meggs, Destiny Smith-Barnett, Taylor Pegram and Drea Austin (Las Vegas/Foothill HS) combined for a time of 46.29, which was ninth best in the 4x100m relay final.
Krystal Wharton (Las Vegas/Valley HS) finished 12th in the long jump with a distance of 18-5.75 (5.63m).
The Rebels are scheduled to split up and participate in a pair of meets in the Golden State next Saturday, April 4. UNLV will send some of its squad to the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, Calif., and others to the Legends Invitational hosted by UCLA in Los Angeles.
