Beach Invitational: Meet Central

WALNUT, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field team got a pair of top-three finishes from MacKenna Howard in the shot put and the 4x100m relay Friday at the Mt. SAC Relays, which are being contested at Hilmer Lodge Stadium. Howard threw a measurement of 50-4.50 (15.35), while the foursome of Drea Austin (Las Vegas/Foothill HS), Micayla Coquia (Las Vegas/Legacy HS), Taylor Pegram and Destiny Smith-Barnett compiled a time of 45.39.

Three members of that relay also competed individually. Pegram ran a season-best time of 13.73 in the 100m hurdles, which was 12th overall. Austin ran a time of 11.89 in the 100m and 24.30 in the 200m. Coquia also participated in the 100m with a season-best time of 12.15.

Ke'Nya Hardge and Joniece Ervin joined Pegram in the 100m hurdles. Hardge ran a time of 14.05 to a 14.55 by Ervin.

Krystal Wharton (Las Vegas/Valley) finished 10th in the long jump behind a distance of 19-2 (5.84m).

Three Rebels ran in a pair of distance races with Mandy Chitwood (Las Vegas/Canyon Springs) in the 800m (2:12.73) and Spencer Moore (4:36.73) and Miranda Menzies (4:44.79) in the 1500m.

The Scarlet & Gray will have its 4x400m relay quartet running in Saturday's portion of the Mt. SAC Relays, while Howard (discus), Pegram (100m hurdles) and Hardge (100m hurdles) will lead a group at the Beach Invitational at Cerritos College's Falcon Stadium. Kenia Bonilla (100m and 200m), Akia Armstrong (long jump), Vanessa Sierra (discus and shot put), Sara Williams (10,000m) and Amanda Berg (10,000m) will also compete at the Beach Invitational.
