SAN DIEGO (UNLVRebels.com) - Cortney Miller and Akia Armstrong combined to score six points for the UNLV track & field team in less than ideal conditions Friday at the 2015 Mountain West Outdoor Championships. Miller finished fourth overall (191-3/58.29m) in the hammer throw for five points, while Akia Armstrong garnered one point with an eighth-place finish (18-4.25/5.59m) in the long jump. Overall, the Scarlet & Gray sits in ninth place with nine points heading into the fourth and final day of competition at San Diego State's Sports Deck in America's Finest City.
The Rebels look to make a move in the standings Saturday after nine of their own qualified for the finals in seven races. Drea Austin and Monay Meggs advanced out of the preliminary rounds to qualify for a pair of finals apiece. The former won her heats in the 100m (11.72: personal best) and 200m (24.26), while the latter registered times of 24.30 in the 200m and 56.19 in the 400m.
Micayla Coquia also qualified for the 100m finale with a personal-best time of 11.97. Coquia also ran a PB of 24.95 in the 200m.
Auzsane Crowe-Carter and Spencer Moore earned spots in the 800m (2:09.99) and 1500m (4:34.10) finals, respectively.
In the hurdles, Taylor Pegram ran a time of 13.89 in the 100m discipline, while Joniece Ervin legged out a 1:01.05 in the 400m version.
Two Rebels notched personal bests in the 10,000m and 3000m Steeplechase Friday. Sara Williams ran a time of 36:40.39 in the long-distance race, while Hobby crossed the line in 11:35.73 in the event that involves a water jump.
Saturday starts with the javelin and 4x100m at 10:00 am. The 4x400m relay closes the women's portion of the meet at 2:30 pm. In all, the day will see 12 individuals and two relay teams crowned champions in a total of 14 events - 10 track and four field.
New Mexico paces the 10-team field with 57 points although Colorado State sits one point back with 56. San Diego State is third (47 points) and is followed by Utah State (31), Wyoming (27), San Jose State (18), Boise State (14), Nevada, Reno (11), UNLV and Fresno State (three).
