LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's soccer team will play Hawai'i and UTRGV this weekend to end the non-conference portion of the schedule. First up will be a Friday night contest against Hawai'i at 7 pm and then UTRGV on Sunday at 5 pm.
After a two game-winning streak with both victories coming in overtime, the Rebels have dropped two games in a row on the road. Cal State Fullerton defeated UNLV in a close match 1-0, and No. 5 BYU used two goals in the second half to win 2-0. UNLV will look to snap the losing streak with the last two non-conference opponents of the season to start a four-game home stand at Johann Memorial Field.
The Rebels have played a challenging non-conference schedule so far this season. In the four losses this season that includes two ranked teams, the combined record of the opponents is 23-4-1.
Junior Susie Bernal has made the biggest impact of the season so far, as she has successfully bounced back from missing 2014 with a knee injury to lead the team in scoring this year with two goals, both game-winners. Also among the team's leaders is returning all-conference selection Denali Murnan. The midfielder has three points this season, including a golden goal as well. Jordan Sallee has seen the majority of time in goal and owns a 1.72 GAA with 34 saves. Sallee set a career-high in saves against BYU with 13 last Saturday.
UNLV takes on Hawaii for the first time since 2012, a 5-4 victory for the 'Bows. Hawai'i owns the all-time series with 2-1-0 record in the three games between the two schools. This will mark the first meeting between UNLV and UTRGV. The Vaqueros' first season of competition was last year.
