LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -
Sunday marks the end of the non-conference slate for UNLV men's soccer as it hosts the Gonzaga Bulldogs at 10:30 am at Peter Johann Memorial Field. The UNLV Soccer Foundation is also hosting a free Tailgate Breakfast Party before the game, with gates opening at 8:30 am. The tailgate is sponsored by Audi Henderson.
The Rebels will be out to avenge last year's loss to the Bulldogs, when UNLV's unbeaten streak to start the 2014 season was snapped at six games following a 4-2 loss on the road in which the Rebels had to play the entire second half shorthanded.
Sunday's game will be streamed live on the Mountain West Network, which is available on UNLVRebels.com. Tyler Bischoff returns for his second year as play-by-play announcer on the Rebel broadcasts.
The Rebels have won five straight coming into Sunday's contest, which is tied for the fourth-longest active win streak in the nation (as of games played through Sept. 24). A win over Gonzaga would give the Rebels their longest win streak since a 10-game streak in the middle of the 1987 campaign.
After a slow start offensively, in which they scored just one goal over two games, the Rebels have bounced back to post 14 over the past five games, and rank 15th in the nation for total goals. UNLV is fifth as well in shots on goal, though they are facing a Gonzaga squad that is allowing only 3.1 shots per goal. The Bulldogs struggles this year have been on offense, as they have just seven total goals in eight contests this season.
UNLV is also looking for its first win over Gonzaga since 1999. The teams have met nine times before and the Bulldogs have won seven of those contests, including two-goal wins in 2013 in Las Vegas and last year's match.
