ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's golf team finished in a tie for third place after a final-round 3-over-par 291 on Saturday at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, which was played at the UNM Championship Course (par 72, 7,556 yards).
New Mexico captured the team title for the fourth straight year after a final-round 3-under 285, giving the Lobos a 19-shot victory at 24-under 840. Texas Tech was second at 5-under, followed by the Rebels and Colorado State both at 4-over 868. San Diego State rounded out the top five at 8-over. The tournament featured 16 teams.
New Mexico's Andrej Bevins earned medalist honors at 10-over 206 after a final-round 2-under 70.
UNLV senior AJ McInerney recorded a final-round low of 4-under 68 to finish in second place, just two shots back at 8-under 208. McInerney had six birdies and two bogeys on the day, and recorded his fifth career top-five finish. There was a two-way tie for third at 7-under.
Other Rebel scores: sophomore John Oda tied for 11th at 2-under 214 after a final-round 2-under 70, sophomore Ben Davis tied for 34th at 7-over 223 after a final-round 5-over 77, sophomore Shintaro Ban tied for 45th at 9-over 225 after a final-round 4-over 76 and freshman Harry Hall tied for 49th at 11-over 227 after a final-round 7-over 79. Junior Redford Bobbitt, who played as an individual, also tied for 49th at 11-over 227 after a final-round 3-over 75. There were a total of 100 student-athletes competing.
UNLV will be back in action Oct. 5-6, at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate in Ala.
