Sept. 3, 2015 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV cross country program will open its 2015 season in the northern portion of the Silver State at Nevada, Reno's Nature's Bakery Twilight Classic Friday night. The women's 4K is scheduled for an 8:30 pm start, and it's one of nine races that will be contested at Shadow Mountain Park in Sparks, Nev., throughout the evening.
UCLA, UC Riverside and Sierra Nevada College will join the Scarlet & Gray as well as the host Wolf Pack in the 4K, the shortest race of the five that the Rebels will run in the regular season.
UNLV will send Auzsane Crowe-Carter, Brooke Cassar, Lindy Eskin, Rebecca Hobby, Spencer Moore, Nikki Regalado, Sara Williams and Angela Ziff to the race.
Moore had a pair of top-10 finishes a year ago to go along with the fourth-best 6K performance in program history (21:22.7 at the Bronco Invitational). Regalado (21:54.2) and Hobby (22:00.2) also placed their names on that list with the ninth- and 11th-best showings.
"We are looking forward to our first meet this year," said head coach Jebreh Harris. "We are returning a lot of student-athletes from last year, so team chemistry is as strong as I've seen it. This is the first step of our season with a lot of training and racing to go. We are excited to get the season started."
Friday night's meet is the first of two trips to the Reno area for the Rebels this season. The Montreux Golf Course will play host to the Mountain West Championships (6K) on Oct. 30.
