LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's golf team will open its spring season right here in Las Vegas as it will compete in the 2016 LMU Invitational, which will be held at Reflection Bay Golf Club (par 72, 7,261 yards) at Lake Las Vegas on Monday-Tuesday, Feb. 1-2.
The public is encouraged to attend the tournament and admission is free.
Hosted by Loyola Marymount University but taking place in Las Vegas, the event features a 15-team field: Boise State, Boston College, Cal Poly, CSUN, Hartford, Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount, Missouri State, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, San Francisco, Seattle, UC Santa Barbara, UNLV and Wyoming.
The 54-hole stroke-play tournament will consist of 36 holes on Monday (two rounds, shotgun start) and a final round of 18 holes (1st & 10th tees) on Tuesday. Play will begin at 8 a.m. on Monday and 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
In the lineup for the Rebels will be sophomore John Oda, senior Zane Thomas, senior AJ McInerney, sophomore Shintaro Ban and freshman Harry Hall. Sophomore Ben Davis, junior Redford Bobbitt and junior Taylor Montgomery will be competing as individuals. UNLV played in four events during the fall season, recording its best finish at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in Albuquerque, N.M. in September. The Rebels tied for third at that event. McInerney turned in the team's top individual performance when he finished second at that event.
