Feb. 23, 2016 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Former UNLV women's soccer standout Denali Murnan has signed a one-year contract with Oulu Nice Soccer Club of Finland. Murnan will report to its team camp in March to begin her professional soccer career.
"It's a dream come true," said Murnan. "At the same time now that playing professional soccer is finally real, it's also nerve-wracking. I'm excited for this adventure and next chapter of my life."
A four year starter at UNLV, Murnan ranks tied for fifth in UNLV's all-time career assist leaders with 13. After a medical redshirt in 2013 from suffering a broken elbow, she earned Second Team All-Mountain West Honors in 2014 and 2015.
"I'm happy that I was able to play four full years of soccer here at UNLV," said Murnan. "Having to redshirt for my junior year, I wasn't sure this would be able to happen."
Murnan wrapped up a successful career with the Rebels this past fall. She was second on the team in scoring with four goals and 13 points and scored the game-winning goals against Utah Valley on Sept. 4 and San Jose State on Oct. 23.
"After officially getting that offer to play professional soccer, I realized I'm accomplishing a goal since I've had since I was a little girl," said Murnan. "Now that I'm getting my foot in the door, I think my career can only go up from here if I work as hard as I can."
ONS competes in the 10-team Naisten Liiga of Finland. It opens its season on April 1 at Nice Futis in Pori, Finald.
