LAS VEGAS(UNLVRebels.com)-The UNLV men's tennis team posted a strong home opener downing New Mexico State 6-1 on Friday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

The Rebels improved to 2-1 while the Aggies fell to 0-3.

UNLV won two doubles matches to secure the team point. Jakob Amilon and Ruben Alberts downed Strahinja Trecakov and Christofer Goncalves 6-1 at the top position while Alexandr Cozbinov and Richard Solberg defeated Stijn de Haan and Mauri Benitez 6-1 at the second spot.

In singles, the hosts swept five matches, one of which was a super tiebreaker.

Amilon downed Trecakov 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1; Cozbinov beat Goncalves 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2; Alberts swept Nicholas Springer 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3; Solberg defeated De Haan 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4; Evaldo Neto outlasted Benitez, 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6) at No. 5.

The Rebels are right back on the courts Saturday when they host a doubleheader against Weber State and then UC Riverside, starting with doubles play at 10 a.m. Admission to all UNLV home matches is free of charge.
