CANBY, Ore. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's golf team holds a one shot lead after Monday's first day of play at the Airstream Adventures Northwest Classic, which was played at Willamette Valley Country Club (par 72, 6,925 yards) just outside of Portland.
Play was suspended for darkness at 7:30 p.m. in the second round after a long rain delay was observed midway through the second round because of water pooling on the greens. Most groups have three holes to finish. Round two will resume on Tuesday at 8 a.m. with the final round commencing immediately after completion of round two.
The Rebels shot an opening-round 8-under-par 280 and were 5-under during the second round when play was halted. The team is currently at 13-under. Oregon is in second place, one shot back at 12-under, while Seattle is third at 8-under. East Tennessee State is fourth at 2-under, while St. Mary's rounds out the top five at 4-over.
Oregon's Aaron Wise holds the individual lead by one shot at 7-under. He shot a 5-under 67 during the first round. There is a two-way tie for second at 6-under between East Tennessee State's Adrian Meronk and Seattle's Joe Harvie.
UNLV sophomore John Oda is tied for fourth at 4-under, while senior AJ McInerney is tied for seventh at 3-under. Sophomore Shintaro Ban and freshman Harry Hall are both tied for ninth at 1-under. Oda shot 2-over in the first round, McInerney was 2-under, Ban was even par and Hall was 1-under.
Other Rebels: senior Zane Thomas is tied for 14th at even par, while sophomore Ben Davis, who is competing as an individual, is tied for 46th at 5-over. Thomas shot 2-over during the first round, while Davis was 6-over. There are a total of 87 players competing.
