TUCSON, Ariz. (UNLVRebels.com) - The No. 25 UNLV men's golf team made up nine shots on the lead on Saturday after a second-round-low 7-under 281 and is now in second place, trailing by just two shots, at the 2016 Mountain West Men's Golf Championship, which is being played at the Catalina Course at Omni Tucson National Resort (par 712 7,194 yards).
The Rebels have a 36-hole score of 9-under 567, while New Mexico is the team leader at 11-under 565. The Lobos shot 3-under on Saturday. Fresno State, which led the tournament after the first round at 13-under, is third at 5-under, while San Diego State is fourth at 4-under and Colorado State and Nevada, Reno are both tied for fifth at 3-under.
UNR's Corey Eddings still holds the individual lead by a shot. He is at 8-under 136 after two rounds, while New Mexico's Sam Kim is second at 7-under. Eddings shot 1-under during the second round, while Kim was 4-under. There is a two-way tie for third at 6-under.
UNLV sophomore John Oda is leading the way for the Rebels and is in a tie for sixth at 4-under 140. He shot a second-round 3-under 69. Fellow sophomore Shintaro Ban is also in the top 10 as he is tied for eighth at 3-under 141 after a second-round 3-under 69.
Other Rebel players: senior Zane Thomas is tied for 17th at 1-under 143 after a second-round even-par 72, freshman Harry Hall is tied for 23rd at even-par 144 after a second-round even-par 72 and sophomore Ben Davis is tied for 26th at 1-over 145 after a second-round 1-under 71.
All UNLV players were either even or under par during Saturday's second round. There are a total of 11 teams and 55 individuals competing.

The tournament is also an opportunity for the Rebels to earn three more points in the Governor's Series, presented by NV Energy and Barrick Gold. The competition between UNLV and Nevada, Reno is in its fourth year and is a head-to-head athletic and academic challenge between the longtime rivals.
