FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 53 ranked UNLV women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season after being ousted by No. 39 Fresno State 4-3 Friday at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.

In seeing their school record for most consecutive victories snapped, the Rebels dropped to 19-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play while the Bulldogs improved to 14-8 and 1-0.

Fresno State gained a quick 1-0 lead to start the match by winning the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and 2 positions.

Moving to singles, the Bulldogs built a 3-0 advantage before Aiwen Zhu got her team on the board with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Sophie Watts at No. 2. UNLV's other two points came from Iren Kotseva, who downed Sofya Malysheva 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5; and Anna Bogoslavets, who was pushed to a third set, but outlasted Galina Bykova 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 on court three. That moved the freshman's overall record to a stunning 19-1. The match winning point came down to the top spot with a battle between ranked players. No. 82 ranked Rebel Carol Yang went the distance with Fresno State's No. 52 Mayar Sherif Ahmed, but was downed 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

Next up, UNLV will continue league play on the road Sunday against intrastate rival Nevada, Reno. The match in Reno is part of the Governor's Series presented by NV Energy and Barrick Gold. Doubles will begin at 11 a.m. PT.
