No. 25 Rebels Finish Sixth At Olympia Fields

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. (UNLVRebels.com) - The No. 25 UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round 3-over-par 283, its lowest round of the tournament, on Sunday and moved up a spot in the standings to finish in sixth place at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational, which was played at Olympia Fields Country Club (par 70, 7,353 yards).

The tough early-season tournament featured 12 of the nation's top 32-ranked teams (by Golfweek) at the course that has been home to several premier events including the 2015 U.S. Amateur. Olympia Fields has also hosted two U.S. Opens, three PGA Championships, five Western Opens and a U.S. Senior Open among other high-level tournaments.

Host and No. 2 Illinois won the team title at 5-over 845 after a final-round 11-over 291, finishing 13 shots ahead of No. 4 Oklahoma State. The Cowboys finished second at 18-over. No. 27 Texas A&M finished third at 24-over, followed by No. 30 North Carolina at 26-over and No. 18 Florida State at 27-over.

The Rebels finished with a 54-hole total of 28-over 868. There were 15 teams competing.

Individually, Texas A&M's Cameron Champ shot a final-round 1-under 69 to win medalist honors by four shots at 5-under 205. Illinois' Dylan Meyer and Arizona State's Ki Taek Lee both tied for second at 1-under 209.

UNLV was led by sophomore Harry Hall, who tied for seventh at 1-over 211 after a final-round even-par 70. Junior Shintaro Ban was also in the top 20 as he tied for 19th at 6-over 216 after a final-round 1-under 69.

Other Rebels: Junior John Oda finished tied for 33rd at 10-over 220 after a final-round 1-under 69, junior Ben Davis finished tied for 48th at 15-over 225 after a final-round 5-over 75 and freshman Yash Majmudar tied for 60th at 19-over 229 after a final-round 10-over 80. There were a total of 78 players competing.

UNLV will be back in action Friday-Saturday, Sept. 23-24, at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in Albuquerque, N.M.
