LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's golf team will open its 2016-17 season on Saturday, Sept. 10, as it will compete at the 48th Annual Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational. The two-day tournament, which is being hosted by Air Force, will be played at the Eisenhower Golf Club's Blue Course (par 72, 7,461 yards) in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The 54-hole stroke-play tournament will consist of 36 holes (two rounds) on Saturday starting at 8:15 a.m. MT in a shotgun format, and 18 on Sunday, Sept. 11, with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. MT.
The 16-team field for the Falcon Invitational includes Abilene Christian, Air Force, Air Force (silver), Boise State, Colorado, Colorado State, New Mexico State, Northern Colorado, Southern Utah, UMKC, UNLV, Utah State, UTEP, Weber State, Wyoming and William & Mary.
UNLV did not play in last year's Falcon Invitational, but two years ago (2014) it claimed both the team and individual titles at the event. Senior Taylor Montgomery, who was a sophomore then, was the medalist for the first time in his career.
Competing for the Rebels this weekend will be junior John Oda, junior Shintaro Ban, sophomore Harry Hall, Montgomery and freshman Yash Majmudar. Freshman Justin Kim will be competing as an individual. Colorado State is the defending tournament champion as the Rams won by three strokes last year over second-place Colorado. Colorado's Philip Juel-Berg earned medalist honors at 12-under par.

UNLV is entering its 30th season under head coach Dwaine Knight and the squad returns five letterwinners from last year's Mountain West Champion squad. UNLV has played in a NCAA-record 28-straight NCAA Regionals.
