LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV turned in a combined singles record of 6-2 during the opening day of the Rebel Tennis Women's Invitational at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on Friday.

The home team was led by 83rd-ranked Aiwen Zhu who downed Devin Chyphya of Arizona 6-1, 6-1 in the top draw. Also winning was Anna Bogoslavets, 6-3, 6-3 over Purdue's Ena Babic in Flight Two; En-Pei Huang, 6-1, 6-0, over Celina Buhr of Grand Canyon in Flight Two; Izumi Asano, 6-4, 6-2, over Riley McQuaid of Texas A&M in Flight Three; Juliet Zhang, 6-0, 6-1 over Mya Etienne of Grand Canyon in Flight Four; and Mercedes Lopez, who won Flight Five with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over GCU's Autumn Prudhome.

UNLV also split four doubles matches. Zhu and Huang won 8-4 in Flight One and Zhang and Asano won 8-3 in Flight Two.

Joining the Rebels at the event are competitors from Texas A&M, Purdue, North Carolina State, Arizona and Grand Canyon.

Featuring five flights of singles and two flights of doubles, all matches are free and open to the public. Semifinal action gets underway with doubles play on Saturday at 10 a.m.
