UNLV Game Notes

UNLV OPENS LEAGUE PLAY ON THE ROAD SATURDAY...

After receiving a bye on the conference's first day of play, the UNLV Lady Rebels will open their Mountain West schedule this Saturday, with a road contest at the preseason favorite Boise State Broncos. The game will be live streamed on the Mountain West Network, and there will also be a radio broadcast with the call of Adam Candee, with both available through UNLVRebels.com.

Both teams have seen their struggles this year, and are also dealing with injuries to key starters, as the Lady Rebels are currently without starting point guard Nikki Wheatley, who's return to the court is still to be determined. The Broncos meanwhile are without their starting center, Marijke Vanderschaff, who was averaging 9.4 ppg before suffering an ACL injury that has her out for the rest of the season.

While the Lady Rebels bring a 5-6 record into Saturday's game, that came against by far the toughest non-conference slate of any team in the Mountain West. UNLV's 11-game schedule against non-MW opponents is currently ranked as the 24th-toughest in the nation. The Broncos' schedule meanwhile is just the 258th toughest in the nation, as of Dec. 28. Air Force is the only other MW school with a schedule strength in the top 100 (71st).

Saturday's game could be decided on the boards, as the Broncos and the Lady Rebels are 1-2 in the conference in both rebounding and rebound margin.

UNLV leads the all-time series with the Broncos 8-7 after winning the last three meetings. That includes the only meeting last year, a 58-55 road win in Boise. In face, UNLV has won two of the last three games in Taco Bell Arena, after claiming a win in the 2014-15 season as well.
