TUCSON, Ariz. (UNLVRebels.com) - The No. 17 UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round 6-under-par 282 on Tuesday and finished in a tie for second at the National Invitational Tournament, which was played at Omni Tucson National-Catalina Course (par 72, 7,200 yards).
Iowa State won the team title by five shots at 32-under 832 after a final-round 5-under 283. Arizona State and UNLV tied at 27-under, followed by UTEP in fourth at 16-under and host Arizona rounded out the top five at 6-under. There were 16 teams competing.
Arizona State's Chun An Yu earned individual medalist honors at 17-under 199 after a final-round 8-under 64. UNLV sophomore Harry Hall tied for second with Iowa State's Nick Voke, four shots back, at 13-under. Both golfers shot 3-under on Tuesday. There was a three-way tie for fourth at 12-under, which included UNLV junior Shintaro Ban. He shot 2-under 70 during the final round.
UNLV junior John Oda also finished in the top 10 as he tied for eighth at 6-under 210 after a final-round even-par 72.
Other Rebels: freshman Justin Kim tied for 57th at 8-over 224 after a final-round 3-over 75 and freshman Derek Castillo tied for 67th at 10-over 226 after a final-round 1-under 71.
The tournament had a total of 88 individuals.
UNLV, which has turned in a first, two seconds and a third in a total of six events this season, will be back in action, March 6-8, as it hosts the Southern Highlands Collegiate at Southern Highlands Golf Club. The tournament annually features the toughest field in college golf other than the national championship.
