Saturday Sweep For Women's Tennis

Box Score vs. Boise State | Box Score vs. Southern Utah

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The 42nd-ranked UNLV women's tennis team (12-6, 2-0) won both matches of a doubleheader to conference opponent Boise State and then Southern Utah Saturday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

In the morning affair, the Rebels took down the Broncos 6-1, dropping Boise State's overall record to 9-5. UNLV won both completed doubles matches to secure the team point. Carol Zi Yang and Cristina Moroi defeated Jovana Kuljanin and Wiktoria Nosek 6-2 at No. 2, while Paola Artiga and Anna Bogoslavets downed Hanna Kantenwein and Nancy Menjivar 6-1 on court three.

In singles, the Rebels won five matches to capture the win. Aiwen Zhu beat Kantenwein 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2; En-Pei Huang rallied to edge Lilian Poling 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 at No. 3; Bogoslavets downed Nosek 6-1, 6-1 on court four; Artiga escaped Menjivar 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8); and Jovana Kenic finished off Kirsty Venter 6-3, 6-3 on court six.

The afternoon slate saw the Scarlet & Gray blank the Thunderbirds for the second time this season 7-0, dropping their record to 1-15.

UNLV won all three doubles matches to secure the team point. Zhu and Huang beat Mikala Lowrance and Teresa Enrique Schmidt 6-3 at No. 1; Yang and Moroi won their second doubles match of the day by defeating Laura Martin Lozano and Evgenia Marushko 6-3 at No. 2; while Artiga and Bogoslavets also won their second doubles match of the day by finishing off Cloe Stocking and Charity Sagiao 6-1 on court three.

In singles, the Rebels won all six matches to secure the shutout. Zhu captured her second singles win of the day by defeating Marushko 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1; Yang, ranked 27th in the nation, beat Lowrance 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2; Bogoslavets earned her second singles win of the day by defeating Enrique Schmidt 6-0, 6-1 on court three; Kenic too won her second singles contest of the day beating Stocking 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4; Moroi edged by Sagiao 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-3) at No. 5; and Mercedes Lopez finished off Martin Lozano 6-2, 6-1 on court six.

Next up, UNLV will travel to the Golden State for dual matches against conference opponents San Diego State on Friday, March 31 at noon followed by a trip up north to San Jose State on Sunday, April 2 at noon.
