LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The top-seeded UNLV women's team won its opening match at the Mountain West Conference Championship against eighth-seeded Utah State 4-0 Friday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. This marks the second semifinal appearance for the Rebels in the past four years.

While UNLV improved to 17-7 overall, the Aggies ended their campaign at 13-11.

UNLV gained a 1-0 lead to start the match by winning the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and 3 positions. The all-conference doubles duo of Aiwen Zhu and En-Pei Huang downed Maggie O'Meara and Monika Van de Vondel 6-0 at No. 1, while Paola Artiga and Anna Bogoslavets Jenna Kane and Lucy Octave 7-5 on court three.

Moving to singles, all-conference member Anna Bogoslavets got UNLV on the board by defeating Octave 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 to make it a 2-0 game. The Rebels took the lead 3-0 when fellow all-conference teammate Huang outlasted Van de Vondel 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4. Senior Paola Artiga clinched the match winning point for the Rebels on court five where she downed Sabrina Demerath 6-3, 6-4.

UNLV is set to play on Saturday in the semifinals against fourth-seeded Wyoming (18-3) beginning at 10 a.m. PT, their first matchup of the season.
