OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill (UNLVRebels.com) - The No. 12 UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round 9-over-par 289 Sunday at the Olympia Fields Country Club/Fighting Illini Invitational, which was played at the North Course (par 70, 7,300 yards) at Olympia Fields CC.
The tough early-season tournament featured 10 of the nation's top 20-ranked teams at a course that has been home to several premier events including the 2015 U.S. Amateur. It has also hosted two U.S. Opens, three PGA Championships, five Western Opens and a U.S. Senior Open among other high-level tournaments.
No. 16 Texas A&M captured the team title by nine shots at 3-under 837 after a final-round-low 9-under 271 No. 19 Alabama finished second at 6-over. The Rebels were 24-over for the tournament, finishing in seventh place among 15 teams.
Alabama's Davis Riley earned medalist honors by three shots at 10-under 200 after a final-round 3-under 67.
STAT OF THE DAY: UNLV freshman J.J. Gresco recorded five birdies during the final round. He had three straight over the 15th, 16th and 17 holes.
REBEL OF THE DAY: Senior Shintaro Ban finished third individually among 78 golfers. He shot 6-under 204 for the tournament after an even-par 70 on the final day. He finished four shots off the lead.
