(UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV women's soccer saw its second golden goal double overtime victory in seven games this season in a wild finish in Flagstaff Friday night. After a scoreless first half, the Scarlet and Gray took the 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the second period on a Michaela Morris goal and looked as if it would hold out for its sixth victory of the year and fourth straight over the Lumberjacks. Northern Arizona had other plans, scoring at the 89:25 mark to send the game to overtime. As the match headed towards a draw, junior forward Amanda Galbraith took matters into her own hands, scoring in the 107th minute for the instant victory.
With the win, the Rebels improved to 6-1, marking the first time in program history they've reached that record through the first seven games. The Lumberjacks entered Friday's contest having won four-straight without allowing a goal, but UNLV was finally able to breakthrough the stout NAU defense for the two scores. The Rebels have now won four in a row and eight of 11 in the all-time series against Northern Arizona.
THE TURNING POINT: The Rebels were just a few minutes away from what would have surely been a disappointing draw after giving up the game-tying goal with 35 second remaining in the game. They won't have to lament on what could have been, thanks to Galbraith's double overtime heroics keeping them from their first draw of the season.
STAT OF THE GAME: UNLV allowed a season-high 16 shots, but still out-shot their opponent for the sixth time this season -- all Rebel wins - with 19 total Friday night.
REBEL OF THE GAME: Junior forward
Amanda Galbraith showed why head coach
Chris Shaw nabbed the transfer from junior college, netting her third goal of the season for the game-winner.
