UNLV HOSTS SPARTANS IN MW HOME OPENER...

The Lady Rebels begin 2018 with their first Mountain West home game of the season, as UNLV hosts the San Jose State Spartans in a Wednesday night contest at 6 pm in the Cox Pavilion. There is a special Family Fun Pack ticket package for the contest, as fans can get four tickets for just $16, while the first 100 fans to Wednesday night's game will receive a free box of popcorn, courtesy of head coach Kathy Olivier. Single game ticket prices for the Lady Rebels this season are $8 for adults, $5 if bought online at UNLVTickets.com, while kids 12 and under are free at all UNLV Lady Rebel home contests.

The game will be live streamed on the Mountain West Network with Wyatt Tomchek as play-by-play, and there will also be a radio broadcast with the call of Adam Candee, with both available through UNLVRebels.com.

Though UNLV has dominated the all-time series by a 30-6 margin and won the last meeting between the two, the Spartans have claimed wins in their previous two trips to the Cox Pavilion, in 2014-15 and 2016-17.

Both teams undertook challenging schedules in 2017-18. The Spartans faced a pair of ranked teams in No. 8 UCLA and No. 19 Oregon State. UNLV meanwhile has played the toughest schedule of any team in the conference, as its non-conference slate was ranked 24th in the nation, far ahead of the next best schedule by a MW team (Air Force at 71st). Among the Lady Rebels opponents this season were No. 5/3 Mississippi State, No. 18/17 Stanford and RV/No. 23 Syracuse.

The Lady Rebels are expected to have the advantage in the post, thanks to its trio of junior post players in center Katie Powell and forward Paris Strawther and Jordyn Bell, who has moved out to the wing role this season. The biggest key for UNLV on Wednesday will be if it can slow down the high scoring Spartan offense, as SJSU averages 71.4 points per game and prefers to run as much as possible. That's a disadvantage for the Lady Rebels at this point in the season, as they will have just two healthy guards on the active roster on Wednesday while awaiting the return of point guard Nikki Wheatley from her foot injury.
